Ethics

Materials, care & responsibility

The principles that govern how we make and care.

Materials

At L'eauphant, leather and textile materials are selected based on fiber strength, surface stability, and form-retention capacity. Fabrics composed of 100% wool, 100% cotton, and wool-polyester or viscose-polyester blends are preferred for their ability to maintain structural integrity and surface performance over extended periods when appropriate care conditions are observed.

Polyester is incorporated into fabric blends as a mechanical reinforcement and form-stabilizing component. It increases tensile strength, reduces wrinkling tendency, and limits surface deformation across repeated wear and cleaning cycles. While synthetic in origin, its measured and functional use contributes to durability-driven sustainability by extending the service life of the garment and reducing overall consumption frequency.

Leather

Leather is sourced exclusively from highest-grade tanneries and used without industrial coating processes. Minor texture variations, tonal transitions, and limited pigment transfer are inherent characteristics of organic leather and are not considered defects, but rather indicators of material authenticity.

Provenance & supply

Distance optimization is applied throughout the supply and production chain. The cumulative operational distance between fabric sourcing, atelier, and warehouse averages 17 km, while the distance between warehouse and local distribution branch averages 0.8 km. This localized production flow is structured to minimize transport-related carbon intensity.

Working conditions

Production processes are conducted in accordance with applicable occupational health and safety standards, regulated working hours, and registered employment principles. Legal entity and tax registration details are accessible in the brand's Legal Information section.

Packaging

Each piece is individually wrapped in tissue paper and presented in a matte-white box, handcrafted from 100gsm coated card stock and printed with the L'eauphant emblem. The box closes with a single black satin ribbon — designed for both arrival and archive. Packaging materials are selected for durability and integrity in international transit, and are intended to be retained as part of the product.

Care & use protocol

To preserve form and fiber stability, a minimum 24-hour resting interval between wears is recommended. Products should be protected from direct sunlight, excessive humidity, and liquid exposure. Leather surfaces should be gently cleaned with a soft, lint-free dry cloth.

A significant portion of textile products requires professional dry cleaning. Compared to high-temperature domestic washing and tumble drying, dry cleaning can reduce water consumption and lower the risk of fiber distortion. Contemporary professional facilities often operate closed-loop solvent recovery systems designed to limit chemical loss and waste generation. While dry cleaning is not a zero-carbon process due to its energy and solvent requirements, when performed at appropriate intervals and in certified facilities, it can extend garment lifespan and thereby reduce total consumption cycles, providing an indirect sustainability benefit.

L'eauphant's sustainability approach is defined through material durability, controlled production distances, ethical and registered manufacturing conditions, adherence to care protocols, and the extension of product life cycles.
